As NY fashion week arrives at the speed of light (Feb 10-17) comments about the production of new collections and the strategic moves to fight the current economic crises are pouring like rain…

“Fashion Week has confused consumers, they see things in the newspaper, then go to the store and see completely different things.”
“It’s important for everybody to shrink the offering, make it more exciting and maybe make it more often“
Diane von Furstenberg – designer and head of the Council of Fashion Designers of America
“It’s a very, very challenging time, but I think imagination and perfection prevail.”
Zac Posen – designer
“The recession has been very, very frightening“
Vera Wang – designer
“It’s up to the fashion industry to put it best foot forward and create things that will make everybody go, ‘God damn, I have to buy that,‘”
“Maybe that’s what fashion’s about — putting on this facade and this gloss over everything and making it look fabulous.”
Fern Mallis – senior vice president of IMG Fashion
“We’re all just trying to be a little more responsible, we have just tried to offer more, so that there’s more possibility for more people to afford things.“
Marc Jacobs – designer
“We need to engage the customer and make her realize how important it is that she’s not shopping for herself, but shopping to make a difference in the world and holding on to an industry that’s imperative“
Donna Karan – designer
“The most important thing is to get people into the stores shopping and feeling good about it,“
Anna Wintour – editor in chief of Vogue
What are you’re expectations for the fall/winter 11 shows?
My guess is that this year we’ll see different styles, with more choice at a more affordable price, and as Lanvin (Alber Elbaz) has been doing, create a certain continuity between collections. 2010 was the year of collaborations between renown houses and massive salles stores, Valentino for Gap, Lanvin pour H&M, I’m quite sure that this phenomenon will occur again next year.

One thing that has been bothering me is the repeated choice of cover girls, I just hate to check a newsstand and see the same all around!
I can’t even understand this trend, the choice is so wide… why do they find the need to repeat the same over and over again?! Worst don’t these girls understand that their image is to be kept interesting and appealing and not warn?
Anne Hathaway, Carey Mulligan and Emma Watson… I can’t even remember the exact number of times they’ve appeared on the cover this year. And don’t get me wrong I simply adore them, talented, beautiful, with an unique sense of style… But if I was asked if I wanted to see them on a cover anytime soon? Hell No!
Give me variety and diversity, present me new talent, women that have done something extraordinary.
I’ll leave you with some examples of what I was talking about!

“I Love Channel and Dior!”
‘You should come with me to the show, I’ll take you and we’ll meet with Karl and John [Galliano] afterwards!”
That was it for Blake Lively, leading actress of Gossip Girl… a simple conversation lead her to the front row of both Channel and Dior shows with Anna Wintour!
Some girls are just lucky! Ok she has the hair and the smile as well!
